Good morning,
For you newbies out there, welcome to Outsider on the Inside. I hope this dispatch from in and around the nation’s capital on underreported topics finds you well.
If you’re just discovering my musings, here’s a backgrounder.
On Friday, my parents celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary and I did my first speaking event at a business school (more on that later) so this dispatch comes later. Back to regular posting on Fridays.
Here’s what I have for you today.
David Weil Defeated in Senate Cloture Vote
On Wednesday evening, the U.S. Senate rejected The Fissured Workplace author in a cloture vote. By a 53-47 margin, all 50 Republicans and three Democratic Senators - Joe Manchin (D-WV), Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ), and Mark Kelly (D-AZ) - delivered a major blow to Big Labor and the Biden administration.
The message was resoundingly clear: David Weil’s antiquated labor policies are anti-worker and fringe.
Weil’s Dangerous Views Explained
Like most of President Biden’s radical picks, Weil isn’t a stranger to controversy.
As Obama’s Wage and Hour Division Administrator, he exceeded his authority on numerous occasions to advance Big Labor special interests at the expense of America’s burgeoning independent workforce and small business owners.
Constitutional Carry Isn’t Fringe
The desire to carry firearms without permits is gaining traction. More states are starting to listen.
Indiana is the most recent state to act. Gov. Eric Holcomb, a Republican, signed House Bill 1296 into law Monday, giving Hoosiers the right to carry without a permit. Alabama and Ohio recently passed similar bills, and Georgia ’s Legislature is closer to adopting such a measure, making it the 25th state to do so.
Permitless carry is the next frontier for safeguarding Second Amendment rights.
Young Conservatives Are Crucial To The Future Of Conservation
“Gabriella Hoffman is a right-leaning journalist and marketing consultant. On her podcast and in op-eds for Townhall, she calls on conservatives to become more conservation-minded.
“There is an opportunity in the Republican Party to tackle these issues. Some lawmakers do this really well, others don’t, but I think you’re going to see more [support for conservation issues],” Hoffman said.
Hoffman believes land, including public land, can have multiple uses, capable of serving both business and sportsmen’s interests. At the same time, she said, those interests cannot supersede care for and stewardship of the environment. Conservationists differ from “preservationists” in their pursuit of this balance, she added. Preservationists believe the natural world should remain as untouched as possible. They doubt humans can responsibly use the land, and they’d rather prohibit both sportsmen and businesses from utilizing natural resources.”
