Good morning,
For you newbies out there, welcome to Outsider on the Inside. I hope this dispatch from in and around the nation’s capital on underreported topics finds you well.
If you’re just discovering my musings, here’s a backgrounder and make sure we’re connected on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and YouTube.
Conservation Nation EP 14 is Out
Introducing Conservation Nation Episode 14…
The focus of our report is California’s water scarcity problem and what the root causes are. I speak with four experts William Bourdeau, Erik Wilson, Johnny Amaral & California Policy Center's Edward Ring to get to the bottom of the situation and learn about solutions.
This is also the last video our CFACT colleague and friend, Adam Houser, lent his input on. We will miss his feedback and valuable contributions for the series.
Please watch and share! Filmed and edited by the brilliant Madison Hughes as always.
RIP Adam Houser
Yesterday, my friend and CFACT colleague Adam Houser lost his battle to cancer. He fought valiantly albeit quietly and his absence leaves a big, gaping hole.
Life is unfair. He was taken way too young and way too soon. He leaves behind a darling wife, Priscilla, and infant daughter, Gianna, family members, and many friends.
I first befriended Adam in 2015. I was working at Leadership Institute, and he was just starting with CFACT. Our field representative training brought him and other center-right nonprofit leaders to our Arlington, VA office to impart wisdom on our field reps we would deploy around the U.S. for their Campus Leadership Program.
Afterwards, we reconnected a bit later after I became self-employed and he wanted to stay in touch about potentially working together. A year or so and some meetings later, I was brought into the CFACT-sphere - in large part because of Adam - to do some lectures on conservation and eventually work with them as a contractor. And the rest is history.
Outside of work, Adam was a friend who never said no to outdoor adventures. One of the most memorable trips we took together was with my friends Matthew Redmond and Danielle Brigida, formerly the digital expert at the Interior Department, to Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge in Cambridge, MD during Labor Day Weekend 2018. There, we did eagling and hoped to spot some sika deer. We also galavanted around and explored St. Michaels, Maryland. That was an unforgettable trip.
Soon he would meet the love of his life, Priscilla, and I joined them and their church friends for outings—including a memorable 2020 July Fourth hike/trip to Shenandoah National Park and lunch/dinner in the town of Warrenton.
In the time I knew him, Adam had a big heart, was amiable with everyone—even political opponents—and always was a happy warrior. He molded and shaped many college activists through CFACT’s Collegians Program and leaves behind a great legacy in and outside of CFACT.
Please join me in keeping his wife, young daughter, family, and friends in your thoughts and prayers.
RIP, Adam. I’ll miss you and forever cherish our friendship.
