A Very Merry Virginia Christmas
On Thursday, I drove down to my state capital, Richmond, to attend a holiday party hosted by Governor Glenn Youngkin and First Lady Suzanne Youngkin at the Virginia Executive Mansion. Thursday night’s theme was centered around Virginia’s faith leaders, so it was extra special.
Believe it or not, this was the first time I officially met my governor. It couldn’t have been a more wonderful backdrop too. Both the Governor and First Lady are lovely and very down-to-earth. Fellow Virginians: We are so lucky to have them representing us!
The Virginia Executive Mansion is the longest-running governor’s residence still used for its original intent, having begun operation in 1813. The First Lady has made it her personal mission to adorn the Executive Mansion with Virginia art and decorations. This space - inside and out - is beautifully appointed.

After a busy month of holiday parties, work and non-work related, I can finally decompress and enjoy well-deserved time off until the New Year.
I hope you have a wonderful Christmas celebration surrounded by loved ones and friends.
Merry Christmas!
Gratitude to My Substack Followers
I’ll have a 2024 round-up before New Year’s, but wanted to express my gratitude to all 1,500+ followers here on Substack.
At the beginning of the year, there were a mere 671 of you reading. Now, at year’s end, this space has grown to 1,500+ strong. Wow!
Experiencing a 128%+ growth in 2024 was a great surprise. I’m grateful you’re here. And to the big Substack accounts who boosted Outsider on the Inside, THANK YOU. Please know how much I appreciate you!
ICYMI: Out Now - “Mystery Highway” by Madison Hughes
Stream “Mystery Highway” by my friend Madison Hughes OUT NOW.
Madison played me a raw version of the song during our August 2023 drive on Alaska’s Seward Highway from Anchorage to Kenai Peninsula. The path was moody, rainy, and lined with awe-inspiring glaciers. I don’t know it if was coincidence or not. But the song playing against this backdrop had a magical and timeless quality about it. Truly one of Maddy’s bests.
Let’s give this song the viral treatment, y’all! Congrats Madison. I’m so proud of you!
