A Grand Time in Arizona
I’ve just returned from my trip to Tucson, Arizona, where I spoke at University of Arizona about energy and conservation topics. I was hosted by the Network of enlightened Women (NeW) chapter on campus.
I’ve spoken at dozens of campuses since 2018, and let me say this: This is one of the best student groups I’ve worked with. Not only did they draw out a solid crowd before Spring Break, they were professional, organized, and lovely hosts who gave me a hearty Tucson welcome.
I was able to fit in a visit to Saguaro National Park - my 15th of 63 National Parks! - with the student leaders.

And they also introduced me to a local staple, a Sonoran Dog, at La Carreta del Rorro. Verdict: muy delicioso!

Although I grew up next door in Southern California, Arizona is also the southwest. I feel right at home in the desert and admire the rugged individualism that has long defined this region. The sunsets are amazing, too.

Women’s Day 2026
In years' past, I have scoffed at International Women’s Day celebrations. Its communist/far-left origins still irk me, but I’m a believer in co-opting the holiday. Since the Left can’t define women today, why not? Let’s do it.
Here’s my attempt for this year.
We American women, bar none, are the luckiest girls alive. Alexis de Tocqueville observed this in his seminal book, “Democracy in America”:
“She thinks for herself, speaks with freedom, and acts on her own impulse. … She is full of reliance on her own strength. … It is rare that an American woman, at any age, displays childish timidity or ignorance. … I have been frequently surprised and almost frightened at the singular address and happy boldness [of] young women in America … an American woman is always mistress of herself.”
Only in America can a daughter of socialist escapees live freely, think independently, lead an energy and conservation policy center, travel our magnificent country, and be a happy warrior.
There are nefarious forces at work reducing women, right and left. Challenge them and don't let them reduce our worth.
We must set a good example for women elsewhere, who desire freedom and prosperity too.
Cheers, ladies!
