Ukraine, Energy Independence, 'Live Happy' Episode Dropping Next Week
Here's the latest dispatch.
Good afternoon,
For you newbies out there, welcome to Outsider on the Inside. I hope this dispatch from in and around the nation’s capital on underreported topics finds you well.
If you’re just discovering my musings, here’s a backgrounder.
Pray for Ukraine
Ukraine is fighting for its life following Russian invasion into the Eastern European nation.
Citizens are taking it upon themselves to defend their homes and country. As Stephen Gutowkski of The Reload noted:
The Interior Minister said 10,000 automatic rifles have been handed out to citizens of the capital city Kyiv on Thursday, according to a reporter with The Kyiv Independent. The distribution of arms happened over a matter of mere hours while the city was under siege from Russian airstrikes and paratrooper drops.
The news comes after the Ukrainian government passed a law formalizing civilian gun regulations and codifying the right to armed self-defense on the eve of the invasion. It appears to be part of a broader strategy to rely on the resistance of the Ukrainian people to help fight off the Russian invaders. The country has been defended by volunteer forces in the dispute with Russian separatists in the eastern regions of the country since 2014 and has even offered training on guerilla tactics. The government formalized the role of “Territorial Defense Forces” in the military chain of command.
If Ukraine can effectively arm and mobilize a large number of armed civilians to resist the invasion, it will increase the difficulty Russia faces in obtaining and maintaining control of the nation of 43 million.
Eastern Europeans like Ukrainians are tough people.
If your country survives Holodomor and Nazi/Soviet dual occupation, surrender isn't an option. They are a courageous bunch fighting for their freedom. And we here in the U.S. should cheer them on against Russian aggression.
Those of us with Baltic, Polish, Romanian, Czech, etc., roots know what the Ukrainians are dealing with. Our families/relatives experienced the same struggle for freedom before the USSR's collapse.

To Punish Russia, U.S. Must Unleash Energy Dominance Again
Today at Townhall.com, I dive deep into Biden admin. policies that precipitated the energy crisis we now face and why unleashing energy dominance is an effective deterrent to weaken Russia. Make no mistake: net-zero energy plays right into Putin’s hands.
An excerpt:
The Russian assault on Ukraine confirmed vulnerabilities in safeguarding American energy security. With the U.S. now importing more oil and gas from the rogue nation, it’s time to pursue energy independence again.
Make no mistake: preservationist environmental policies are squarely to blame for our present situation of high gas prices and energy bills. If President Biden is serious about punishing Russia, he wouldn’t just impose harsher sanctions; he’d equally scale back his extreme climate agenda.
To punish Russia, our nation must unleash energy dominance again. Here’s how.
Revoke Executive Order 13990
To mitigate the damage caused by energy dependence, the Biden administration must repeal Executive Order 13990 that went into effect on January 20th, 2021.
Billed as “Protecting Public Health and the Environment and Restoring Science To Tackle the Climate Crisis,” the directive instructed agencies - including the EPA, Interior, and Energy Departments - to effectively undo four years of good energy policy.
For instance, Section 2 of E.O. 13990 —“Immediate Review of Agency Actions Taken Between January 20, 2017, and January 20, 2021 — instructed agencies to “immediately review all existing regulations, orders, guidance documents, policies, and any other similar agency actions (agency actions) promulgated, issued, or adopted between January 20, 2017, and January 20, 2021.”
Section 4 of the directive called for pausing ANWR exploration “relating to the implementation of the Coastal Plain Oil and Gas Leasing Program, as established by the Record of Decision signed August 17, 2020, in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.” And Section 6 called for revoking the Keystone XL Pipeline, suggesting it “disserves the U.S. national interest” because of the so-called climate crisis. (Talk about asinine.)
