Good evening,
For you newbies out there, welcome to Outsider on the Inside. I hope this dispatch from in and around the nation’s capital on underreported topics finds you well.
If you’re just discovering my musings, here’s a backgrounder and make sure we’re connected on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and YouTube.
Quick Thoughts
Support and follow the work of IWF’s Center for Energy and Conservation today if you haven’t already.
Listen to my friend Madison Hughes’ new single I WON’T FORGET TO REMEMBER YOU.
Amazon is going nuclear. And 12 European nations are asking the E.U. to unleash nuclear energy.
I agree with Konstantin Kisin: Net-zero is “unilateral industrial disarmament.”
Israel eliminated October 7th mastermind and terrorist Yahya Sinwar last year, despite our government urging them to stand down. Bravo, Israel!
President Trump visited a McDonald’s outside Philadelphia to try his hand at making burgers and fries. The political calculus is smart as an appeal to franchise businesses and workers. I recently learned McDonald’s fries used to be prepared with beef tallow. Mind blown!
I voted last weekend in Virginia.
That’s all for now. Stay tuned for next week’s dispatch on Friday!
Auschwitz Survivor Rebukes VP Harris for Trump-Hitler Comparison
I’m declaring this now. This is the best campaign ad of the 2024 election season.
Featured in the video is 94-year-old Auschwitz survivor Jerry Wartski. The video was exclusively shared with the New York Post. Mr. Wartski also serves as an honor president of the Israel Heritage Foundation:
“Adolf Hitler invaded Poland when I was 9 years old. He murdered my parents and most of my family,” 94-year-old Jerry Wartski says in the clip exclusively obtained by The Post and set to be released Friday.
“I know more about Hitler than Kamala will ever know in a thousand lifetimes,” adds Wartski, rolling up his shirtsleeves to reveal his Auschwitz prisoner number.
“For her to accuse President Trump of being like Hitler is the worst thing I ever heard in my 75 years living in the United States,” he goes on, adding that Harris “owes my parents and everybody else who was murdered by Hitler an apology for repeating this lie.”
Asked by an off-camera questioner why the Jewish people should back Trump, Wartski responds: “Because he’s a mensch.”
“I believe that President Trump is definitely going to be good for Israel because everything that he’s done up until now was in [its] favor,” he continues, saying Trump “never double-crossed anyone and he never showed any weakness.”
Mr. Wartski’s remarks come after former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, who lost to Donald Trump in 2016, accused the former President of echoing Nazi Germany dictator Adolf Hitler ahead of his Madison Square Garden rally this weekend.
Echoing HRC, Vice President Kamala Harris’ closing argument to voters is using this tired trope - “Republicans are Nazis and fascists” - She told Anderson Cooper that VP Trump is a fascist during a recent CNN Townhall.
Clinton and Harris aren’t the first Democrats to falsely accuse Republican candidates of being Hitler. But they certainly won’t be the last.
When I got involved in American politics during my senior year of high school, 2008-2009, I learned leading Democrat presidential candidates always called their Republican opponents Hitler. G.W. Bush was Hitler. Reagan - the man who allowed my family to seek asylum in the U.S. - was Hitler. Here’s a shortlist of headlines where Democrats accused major Republicans of being fascists or Hitler.
REUTERS: September 13, 2012: Top California Democrat likens Ryan to Nazi propagandist
THE NATION: July 2023: The GOP’s Nazi Problem Has Deep Roots
NY Mag: October 2024: Conservatives Still Love Their Hitler-Loving Candidate
USA Today: September 2014: Teacher to 6th-graders: Compare Hitler, George W. Bush
Jacobin: March 2019: The Paranoid, Reactionary Dreams of Ronald Reagan
The Washington Examiner reported this atrocious refrain - Reductio ad Hitlerum - goes back 60 years.
It’s been an integral part of the Democratic political playbook, utilized almost as much as calling the Republican nominee a racist. Yet, somehow, after each warning, the Third Reich has yet to materialize in the United States. This includes when former President Donald Trump was president from 2017-2021. Despite six decades’ worth of Democratic warnings of impending fascist doom failing to come true, it has never prevented the left-wing party from engaging in Reductio ad Hitlerum.
If you look further back, even Democrat president Harry Truman’s 1948 campaign used the same tactic. He accused his Republican opponent, Dewey, of being Adolf Hilter reincarnate. From an October 26th, 1948 New York Times article.
Trump has already been president for four years. There were no extermination camps or gas chambers. Anti-Semitism was kept at bay. If he’s remotely like Hitler, he’s a bad one. (Thank goodness.)
Why would the most pro-Israel American president in modern time be Hitlerian? Why would Israel name a city in his honor if he’s a Nazi? Why would vulnerable Senate Democrats positively feature him in an ad is he’s a threat to democracy? If he’s Hitler, why would Democrats offer Trump well-wishes after he was nearly assassinated if he’s a threat to society?
If you want to learn about actual Nazis and the carnage they leave behind on society, go to the former Nazi death camp at Auschwitz-Birkenau. I visited earlier this month. Many Americans haven’t been here and it shows.
I, an American with Ashkenazi Jewish heritage, wouldn’t associate with the Republican Party or conservatism if it was represented by fascists or Nazis. I’m sick of this name-calling. Reserve the Nazi and Hitler labels for ACTUAL Nazis and Hitler reincarnates, please.

I know I've said this recently in other locations, but it bears repeating here. Noted writer Rod Serling was a combat veteran of WWII, and his regiment helped liberate some of the Nazi death camps. The experience haunted him for the rest of his life, and several of his Twilight Zone episodes spoke out against those atrocities. "Death's Head Revisited" was the best. I paraphrase his words below:
Our parents’ generation was supposed to have "peace in our time. A very well-meaning gentleman waved his umbrella and shouted those very words. But this gentleman was afflicted with the worldly disease of insufferable optimism. He and his fellow humans kept polishing their rose-colored glasses when actually they should have taken them off. They were sacrificing reason and reality for a brief and temporal peace of mind, the same peace of mind that many of my contemporaries derive by steadfastly refraining from remembering the War that came before."
What appeasement bought then was the most horrific slaughter of a people ever perpetrated by mankind. Serling urged that all the Dachaus, Auschwitzes, Belsens, Buchenwalds should remain standing, so that they would remain a “monument to a moment in time when some men decided to turn the earth into a graveyard, into it they shoveled all of their reason, their logic, their knowledge, but worst of all their conscience. And the moment we forget this, the moment we cease to be haunted by its remembrance, then we become the grave diggers.”
It took the Greatest Generation to rid the world of such horror, but now, only two generations removed from those atrocities, we see an uptick of antisemitism. Our children’s generation has succumbed to the party propaganda machines of persecution and violence, and chosen to openly criticize the Jewish people for “crimes against humanity.”
When political figures such as Ms. Harris, or Ms. Warren, or AOC, et al, criticize Israel, they give aid and comfort to a government and terrorist organizations that openly discriminate against LBGQT populations and deprives women of their dignity. Their refusal to support Israel is a direct contradiction to their reputed efforts to correct such injustices in America, and gives lie to their ramblings about rights and values and social justice for all Americans.
It is sad that any of our of our elected representatives would willingly refuse to support the Israeli people in their struggle against an enemy who uses civilians as human shields. I’m sure they have their reasons. Perhaps they even believe their reasons are noble and just. But are those reasons more deeply founded on prejudice and bigotry? Only they will know. Regardless, there is no place in civilized society where the hatred of a people can be condoned, no matter their creed, culture, gender, or their race, and no matter what the political stakes!
In effect, they are the grave diggers of today's generation.
