Good morning,
For you newbies out there, welcome to Outsider on the Inside. I hope this dispatch from in and around the nation’s capital on underreported topics finds you well.
If you’re just discovering my musings, here’s a backgrounder and make sure we’re connected on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and YouTube.
I’ll return to regular posting schedule this Friday. Stay tuned!
Quick Thoughts
Support and follow the work of IWF’s Center for Energy and Conservation today if you haven’t already.
Parts of Europe - namely Spain and Portugal - experienced blackouts this week. Spain, for instance, was running on 78% of solar and wind ahead of yesterday’s events. Yikes.
RIP, David Horowitz.
The papal conclave will convene May 7th to select a successor to Pope Francis.
Hard truths: Tariffs aren’t popular with the American people.
The U.S. and Poland will partner on civil nuclear reactors.
That’s all for now. Stay tuned for the next dispatch dropping Friday.
Trump Supercharging Energy in First 100 Days of 2nd Term
I have some concerns with tariffs and the ongoing Russia-Ukraine peace talks, but think President Trump’s energy agenda is the best deliverable, thus far, in Trump 2.0.
Here’s what I said in our official IWF press release earlier today:
Gabriella Hoffman, director of Independent Women’s Center for Energy and Conservation, said: “Smart energy and conservation policies have been supercharged during President Trump’s first 100 days. Deregulation won’t lead to decimation of the environment. By prioritizing energy abundance over net-zero and market innovation over top-down directives, our nation is on track to be a net-exporter of energy again. That doesn’t mean production will come at the expense of conservation. Simultaneously with more oil, gas, coal, and nuclear projects, this administration is restoring and expanding public lands access while addressing the National Parks Service maintenance backlog. Our Center for Energy and Conservation applauds the Trump administration for making these issues a top priority.”
What say you?
Club for Growth Fellowship Spring Retreat
In my Angling Right newsletter this week, I spent the past weekend in Arizona at my Club for Growth Foundation fellowship retreat. There are about 50 fellows in our 2025 class - many of whom you might be familiar with.
Here are some photos from last weekend:
