Good afternoon,
Welcome to a special Fourth of July edition! For you newbies out there, welcome to Outsider on the Inside. I hope this dispatch from in and around the nation’s capital on underreported topics finds you well.
If you’re just discovering my musings, here’s a backgrounder and make sure we’re connected on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and YouTube.
Interview with News on 6 Anchor Tess Maune
“Well, it kind of I fell into it accidentally when we had a beloved meteorologist here at News on 6 …And he was known for taking young reporters, new reporters, out for fishing trips when I started at News on 6. And so with me and another reporter, he took us noodling, which is hand fishing for catfish. So you go into the lake or to the river, creeks, whatever. And you try to catch catfish with just your hands by putting your hands into a you know, a dark, scary hole. Or at least that's what I thought at the time to catch catfish. And so that was really my first opportunity and really true introduction to doing things in the outdoors. I'd had a few experiences when I was younger, but that really kind of lit a fire in me. And a couple of weeks later, I ended up going on another noodling trip with a different group of people because we didn't catch a fish on the first one. We wanted to catch a fish. So we went with a different group of people. And as it turns out, the guide that day is now my husband. He's not a fishing guide. He's actually a wildlife biologist. So that was almost 11 years ago. It'll be 11 years on July 15 that we met. And we've been together ever since.” — Tess Maune, News on 6 Morning Anchor

I’ve profiled my friend and singer-songwriter Madison Hughes here on the newsletter recently — especially about her new song “The Heartbreak Kid.”
Here’s the song if you haven’t heard it yet:
Since Madison was under the weather, we had to push our original interview, June 30th, to July 5th. We will go live on my Instagram account Wednesday, June 5th, at 7pm ET and a reply will follow on my profile and YouTube. There will be accompanying links, I promise.
Thank you for reading! Let me know your thoughts and encourage your friends to subscribe to the newsletter too.
