Good afternoon,
For you newbies out there, welcome to Outsider on the Inside. I hope this dispatch from in and around the nation’s capital on underreported topics finds you well.

Quick Thoughts
Support and follow the work of IWF’s Center for Energy and Conservation today if you haven’t already.
This union nearly paralyzed the East Coast and Hurricane Helene recovery efforts with the #PortStrike. Ugh. Makes me dislike public sector unions more.
Elon Musk will address Trump’s Butler rally tonight.
VP Harris is lying about being for consumer car choices.
That’s all for now. Stay tuned for next week’s dispatch on Friday!
Happy 2nd Annual NEAD!
Yesterday, our Center for Energy and Conservation celebrated the 2nd annual National Energy Appreciation Day (NEAD) celebration.
What is NEAD? From our FAQ page:
National Energy Appreciation Day (NEAD), observed annually on October 4th, will recognize the importance of our domestic energy industry to modern life and celebrate the men and women who make it work.
The U.S. energy mix is truly reflective of an all-of-the-above approach. Coal, oil and natural gas make up 80% of our daily energy needs, nuclear makes up 8% and a variety of renewables such as hydro, biomass, wind, and solar make up 12%. In recent years, some energy technologies have sought to undermine the growth of other energy technologies by painting them in a negative light. We recognize all of our energy resources tradeoffs and benefits. On this day, we want to celebrate them all and focus on how our modern energy system has changed the trajectory of our economy and standard of living!
We took our NEAD celebration on the road to the birthplace of America’s petroleum industry, the Drake Well Museum in Titusville, PA.
My organization hosted a roundtable discussion with House Agriculture Chairman and Congressman Glenn (GT) Thompson (R-PA) and petroleum engineer Sarah Phillips.
Pennsylvania is the second largest producer of natural gas and nuclear energy in the U.S. And the Keystone State is the third overall largest energy producer in the U.S.
Our roundtable event was attended by key stakeholders from the oil and forestry industries, along with lawmakers.
With the time I had left to make my flight back to Washington, D.C., I caught a glimpse of Edwin Drake’s famous oil well. History was made on August 27, 1859, when this well struck oil at 69½ feet. This discovery unleashed the American petroleum industry that many here, sadly, take for granted or vilify.
