Good afternoon,
For you newbies out there, welcome to Outsider on the Inside. I hope this dispatch from in and around the nation’s capital on underreported topics finds you well.
If you’re just discovering my musings, here’s a backgrounder and make sure we’re connected on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and YouTube.
Here’s what I have for you today.
Colorado: An Overview
I promised you an overview of my Colorado trip. And I intend to deliver on that promise today.
The Centennial State, established in 1876, is the 37th state I’ve visited. I got my first sampling of it back in July in Colorado Springs for a fintech conference. But that trip didn’t satiate my soul enough.
Every year, I go on vacation through a family time share exchange and we selected Grand County, CO. Our HQ were in Granby, CO - the gateway to Rocky Mountain National Park. Aside from my qualms with high altitude, the scenery and weather couldn’t be more perfect.
I attempted - but failed - to land a Colorado trout. But fishing is more than the catch. I remind myself that any chance to wade in the river and practice will suffice too.
Highlights of my trip:
Seeing a bull elk and scaling 12,000 feet at Rocky Mountain National Park
Driving by The Stanley Hotel in Estes Park (yes, the hotel that inspired The Shining)
Bracing the rain and admiring Vail, Colorado
We also visited Breckinridge, Colorado Springs, and Rocky Mountain Arsenal NWR. See more spots here.
Hope this inspires you to go out West!
Gala Szn is Back
On Wednesday, I joined friends and former colleagues at the 35th annual Media Research Center Gala at the National Building Museum in downtown Washington, D.C. The event theme was “Night of the Unwoke.”
Here are some pictures from the event.
Earlier this summer, I wrote about my past experience interning at MRC’s CNS News division as a Capitol Hill Reporting Intern. Go here to read how this outfit elevated my media career.
Congrats, MRC! Keep up the good work.
And speaking of gala season…
Independent Women’s Forum, where I serve as a Senior Fellow, is hosting its 30th Annual Awards Gala on October 12th, 2022, at the same venue.
Here’s who IWF is honoring that night:
Woman of Valor: Kimberly Strassel
Lifetime Achievement: Diana Davis Spencer
Resilience Award: Tulsi Gabbard
Gentlemen of Distinction: Vivek Ramaswamy
I hope to see you there!
