Good morning,
For you newbies out there, welcome to Outsider on the Inside. I hope this dispatch from in and around the nation’s capital on underreported topics finds you well.
If you’re just discovering my musings, here’s a backgrounder and make sure we’re connected on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and YouTube.
Quick Thoughts of the Week
I apologize for this weekend dispatch but want to wish you a Merry Christmas on this Christmas Eve! I have one more 2023 dispatch on Friday that will interest you. Enjoy time with loved ones and may you have snow this holiday season.
Tell the grinches at Dept of Energy: hands off our appliances! Take action HERE. And I was profiled in the latest Champion Women profile. Learn more at IWF Center for Energy and Conservation.
Tennessee is suing BlackRock on antitrust grounds for breaching their fiduciary duties by advancing Environment, Social, and Governance (ESG) investment strategies. And 23 state financial officers are going after the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) for their proposed natural asset companies listing rule, which prompted reopening of the comment period.
The bipartisan Victims of Communism Caucus was recently relaunched.
The South Florida Sun Sentinel Editorial Board trashed Florida hunters and anglers. I debunked misinformation about the Florida right to hunt and fish amendment here, here, and here.
The guy who poached Virginia’s monarch deer, the Hollywood Cemetery Buck, has been apprehended and wasn’t alone in his criminal act. Good work and swift action from Virginia DWR.
The Western Caucus filed an amicus brief in support of two court cases to clarify presidential powers under the Antiquities Act.
I appeared on Heard at Heritage/Power Hour, the Heritage Foundation’s podcast, to discuss my conservation work and how conservatism isn’t at odds with conservation.
That’s a wrap for this past week. Stay tuned for the next update!
A Conservation Christmas
I know this newsletter of mine is conservation heavy and this might not be your top topic, but I appreciate you lending your ears and eyes to this effort of mine.
I feel strongly about conservation and believe it blends well with political conservatism and all things Americana.
It’s in our nature, as Americans, to champion conservation and my goal going into the holidays is to make this subject “cool” again for conservatives and beyond.
This year, I traveled a lot in the name of conservation. Almost 40,000 miles to be exact.
I used an application called Flighty to track how many flights I took and miles traversed this year. To my astonishment, I did trek quite a bit in 2023. This excludes three road trips I made to the Northeast, Delaware, and my Smoky Mountain vacation.
This week, an interview I did for The Sportsmen’s Voice, a podcast from the Congressional Sportsmen’s Foundation, dropped. From the episode description: “Fred is joined by award-winning outdoor writer and host of the District of Conservation Podcast Gabriella Hoffman to talk about the year in review of legislation, the challenges facing sportsmen and sportswomen as we try to keep these sports alive, and how sometimes the shooting sports community can be our own worst enemy and what to do about it.”
And I joined one of the conservative movement’s most prominent organizations, Heritage Foundation, on their Power Hour podcast to discuss how conservation is conservative and related subjects.
From me to you: Have a merry (conservation) Christmas and may all your wishes come true. I’ll be plotting some New Year’s Resolutions to commit to and hope you’ve got some good ones, too.
