Good morning!
Welcome to Outsider on the Inside. I hope this dispatch from in and around the nation’s capital on underreported topics finds you well.
If you’re just discovering my musings, here’s a backgrounder.
And I apologize for the absence in dispatches and putting this out on Saturday. I wasn’t able to put pen to paper. Back to regular programmatic scheduling next week, I promise!
Here’s what I have for you:
Terry McAuliffe Isn’t Ready for Primetime
Terry McAuliffe, a DNC fundraiser and Clinton flak who defiled the Governor of Virginia office from 2014-2018, is gunning for a second term this November.
In the Democratic primary, he bested five challengers and spent a whopping $15 million in a contest where he was favored to win. Against political newcomer and Republican gubernatorial nominee Glenn Youngkin, however, he is struggling to negatively brand his opponent and make his attacks stick.
Is “Fast Terry” ready for primetime? Not so fast. From blunders to fact checks, the 72nd Governor of Virginia isn’t a shoo-in for his old job in Richmond. And his early missteps are making Democrats nervous.
Professional Updates (Con’t)
Last week, I announced my participation in the Young Voices Contributors Program and Independent Women’s Forum’s Visiting Fellowship. Yesterday I learned of my acceptance into State Policy Network’s Generation Liberty Fellowship for the upcoming 29th SPN Annual Meetings in Orlando, FL.
Here’s what the fellowship entails:
Generation Liberty Fellows (GLF) receive a stipend to cover attendance, travel expenses, and full access to SPN’s 29th Annual Meeting – the country’s premier freedom movement event. The Annual Meeting draws state-based leaders, practitioners, and innovators from all 50 states to discuss best practices, develop new skills, share expertise, and sharpen new ideas and strategies.
In addition to the full Annual Meeting program, Fellows have access to exclusive pre-event sessions tailored just for rising leaders, including:
Leadership and professional development training, designed to sharpen the skills you need to have meaningful impact and continue growing as a leader,
Private discussions of some of the most pressing issues facing states today and the solutions currently being tested at the state level, and
Invitation-only networking sessions.
After the conference, as a Generation Liberty Fellow alum, you will be part of a nation-wide alumni network of over 500 leaders across the country. GLF alumni have started new nonprofits and are working in a wide range of roles in state and national nonprofit organizations. There are GLF alumni working in all levels of governments, at the state and national level, and are represented in a wide range of private sector industries as well.
Stay tuned!
