Good evening,
For you newbies out there, welcome to Outsider on the Inside. I hope this dispatch from in and around the nation’s capital on underreported topics finds you well.
If you’re just discovering my musings, here’s a backgrounder and make sure we’re connected on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and YouTube.
Quick Thoughts
Support and follow the work of IWF’s Center for Energy and Conservation today if you haven’t already.
Don’t forget to spring-forward this weekend.
Four dead whales in Tidewater Virginia and North Carolina this past week. Unbelievable. Anglers and boats don’t deliberately crash into marine mammals. It’s against the Marine Mammal Protection Act and, depending upon the species, the Endangered Species Act to kill whales. Why would vessels want to put themselves in jeopardy? They need and coexist with whales, too. It probably has to do with pile diving and sonar testing ahead of May 2024 start date for Dominion Energy’s Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind Commercial Project in Virginia Beach, VA. Hmmm.
The New York Times is calling those of us born in 1990 and 1991 “peak millennials” and I’ve never felt more attacked in my life. UGH.
Victims of Communism Museum Foundation announced a new president.
Tennessee is taking proactive steps to block rewilders from serving on the wildlife commission, while Maryland is mulling a lead ammunition ban.
A tale of two States of the Union: Senator Katie Britt’s response was far superior to the SOTU address from an angry and tardy President Biden.
My friend and frequent collaborator, Madison Hughes, will release her new single HATE THAT YOU LOVE ME a week from today on March 15th. Pre-save it here.
That’s it for this week. Stay tuned for next Friday’s update!
Making Women’s Day Our Own
Today is International Women’s Day.
In the past, I was reluctant to partake in celebrations because of its Marxist origins. Why would I lend credence to a system that oppressed my family? Major turn-off.
My parents recall March 8th being a big communist holiday in the Soviet Union— a bigger deal than Valentine’s Day (non-existent there) and even Mother’s Day. If men are to gift women flowers in their honor, go with odd numbered-bouquets. Even numbered ones are for dead people.
More seriously, women never fare well under collectivism. (Yes, the New York Times got this wrong in their Red Century column series.) And they never will. That’s the god-honest truth.
This is why I believe the holiday, celebrated in the U.S., could be reimagined and nurtured a better way to honor real women’s empowerment.
Women are being erased today and displaced by individuals who think wearing dresses and makeup qualifies as womanhood. Women are losing out in competitive sports to biological men competing in their turf. Even women prisoners can’t serve their sentences in peace without fear of predatory men exploiting loopholes to serve lesser sentences. It doesn’t help that many women are, sadly, enabling this behavior too.
While there are some glaring problems in our society today, it doesn’t have to be this way. American women still have it great in the USA. We can serve in elected positions, run multinational companies, launch start-ups, become media personalities, go to space, or serve our communities. We can also choose to get married and raise families. Or we could do both and embrace the best of both worlds. (Believe it or not, this is the choice most American women desire and want.)
Women around the world, especially those living under totalitarian regimes or in third-world countries, dream of having the same freedoms and rights as we do.
Israeli women continue to live in a constant state of fear since Hamas’ October 7th terrorist attacks. No matter how many atrocities have been committed against these women - which are too horrific to type here - human rights organizations and faux women rights activists continue to ignore and dismiss to their plight. I’ve never seen such disgusting and appalling behavior displayed before like this.
My organization, Independent Women’s Forum, put out this great video addressing this:
Here at home, only certain kinds of women - namely progressive ones — are acceptable in the eyes of the Women’s Establishment so to speak.
But if you’re a conservative woman or an independent thinker who deviates? We’re told our male friends, boyfriends, or husbands control us and influence our views. Women who fish, hunt, farm, or work in so-called carbon-intensive industries like agriculture and energy aren’t given much love either.
But we are making strides and mainstream outlets are taking notice.
Women are multifaceted and shouldn’t be put into boxes. Women need not seek out the government to be empowered. Women should be afforded flexibility to work however and whenever they want. Women shouldn’t be limited to choosing between career and family prospects; both are possible. Most of all, women deserve to be respected and not shaped by stupid caricatures.
Cheers to all the women in my corner. I see you!
