Good afternoon,
For you newbies out there, welcome to Outsider on the Inside. I hope this dispatch from in and around the nation’s capital on underreported topics finds you well.
If you’re just discovering my musings, here’s a backgrounder and make sure we’re connected on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and YouTube.
Quick Thoughts
Support and follow the work of IWF’s Center for Energy and Conservation today if you haven’t already.
President Trump will take action to boost U.S. nuclear energy capabilities as early as today.
RIP, Yaron Lischinsky and Sarah Lynn Milgrim. This couple was murdered by a Hama terrorist here in our nation’s capital. Yaron was planning to propose to Sarah next week in Jerusalem. Very tragic. May their memories be a blessing.
Mr. President, please reconsider tariffing the EU.
Senator Joni Ernst (R-IA) performed a duet with Five For Fighting frontman John Ondrasik at The Birchmere in Alexandria, Virginia, this past Tuesday night.
The Senate, in a bipartisan fashion, repealed the EPA waiver that forced 12 states to adopt California’s EV mandate.
That’s it for the week. Stay tuned for next Friday!
IRA Green Subsidies
It’s been a GREAT week for my day job as director of Independent Women’s Center for Energy and Conservation.
I’ve been spending the last few weeks analyzing and commenting on IRA green energy subsidies. Today, it culminates with my new Policy Focus out now.
Here’s a summary of my new report:
Since becoming law three years ago, the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022 (IRA) has artificially boosted unreliable renewable projects and spent billions of taxpayer dollars on wasteful climate-related initiatives. Congress should act now to roll back these subsidies and tax breaks for select energy businesses that threaten to cost taxpayers trillions while undermining the cause of American energy security.
My report was largely inspired by the research conducted by CATO Institute’s and .
The four main takeaways:
UNCAPPED IRA GREEN SUBSIDIES COSTLY FOR TAXPAYERS
GREEN SUBSIDIES FAIL TO SPUR CLEAN ENERGY ADOPTION
GREEN SUBSIDIES DON’T CREATE LASTING JOBS
IRA GREEN SUBSIDIES HARDLY REDUCE EMISSIONS
Ahead of today’s release, I previewed my report in a letter to Congress and with Fox Business.
A. Congressional Hearing Mention
I submitted a letter in support of further IRA green subsidy reforms to the Joint House Oversight Subcommittee EER and HCFS Hearing on “Mandates, Meddling, and Mismanagement: The IRA's Threat to Energy and Medicine” this week. This letter included top line items from my new Policy Focus.
The subcommittee chair, Rep. Burlison, gave our letter a shoutout - which was pretty cool.
B. Fox Business Interview
On Thursday, Fox Business printed an interview featuring yours truly about the subsidies tying very nicely with the House of Representatives narrowly passing the One Big Beautiful Bill.
As I told reporter Kristen Altus:
"There is debate over how much… you cut? Do you cut most of it? Do you cut none of it? Do you cut some of it?" Independent Women’s Forum Center for Energy and Conservation Director Gabriella Hoffman told Fox News Digital.
"To ensure that the president can see his energy agenda unleashed… there could be far more cuts made," she continued. "[If not] the economic and energy consequences would be pretty dire."
We didn’t get everything we wanted, in terms of repeal, but the Manager’s Amendments added ahead of passage do more to end uncapped wind and solar subsidies. I agree with , who has a great Substack post on the update. See below:
