Report: Freelance Workforce Grew to 64.6M
MBO Partners, a technology solutions and personal service company that simplifies that and expedites business processes for self-employed professionals, just published its 12th annual State of Independence in America report. And it revealed the U.S. freelance workforce grew to 64.6 million members strong—up from 59 million last year. That’s a 69% increase since 2020, they report. If we calculate what percentage of the total U.S. workforce that is - 64.6M/153M - that equals 42% of the workforce. Previously, freelancers made up 36% of the workforce. That’s a six percent increase.
More from their report:
There are 64.6 million independent workers in 2022, up 26% over 2021. The number of Full-Time Independents, those regularly working more than 15 hours per week, soared 27% to 21.6 million- up from 15.3 million in 2019.
Independents are becoming larger in number, more centered in the economy, more connected to one another and to companies large and small.
They find work in different ways even from a few years ago and have a fundamentally optimistic view about their own prospects, their health, and their purpose.
