Good afternoon,
For you newbies out there, welcome to Outsider on the Inside. I hope this dispatch from in and around the nation’s capital on underreported topics finds you well.
If you’re just discovering my musings, here’s a backgrounder.
Here’s what I have for you today.
E15 is the Wrong Fuel to Drive America's Energy Plan
Yesterday, I made my RealClear Policy debut on behalf of Young Voices discussing the problem with the Biden administration’s proposed plans for E15 gas.
Here’s an excerpt:
There’s no better way to enjoy warmer weather than road-tripping or some sort of water sport. But an updated biofuel rule permitting the sale of E15 gasoline could derail many summer plans.
The White House recently announced its intention to sell E15 (15% ethanol and 85% gasoline) to offset high prices at the pump — attributing it to the so-called “Putin Price Hike.” In an unprecedented move, the Environment Protection Agency (EPA) is expected to fall in line and will issue a rare emergency waiver greenlighting the sale between June 1st to September 15th —which was previously forbidden under the Clean Air Act, given air pollution concerns.
But this rule change would be sustainable for neither working families nor the environment.
With rising inflation, increasing production of corn-based fuel will further add to economic woes. Though it’s been lauded as a viable alternative to conventional fuel, E15 has vast shortcomings as a reliable fuel source.
She Thinks Podcast Appearance: True Conservation
I returned to Independent Women Forum’s podcast, She Thinks, to discuss my new Policy Focus on true conservation with host Beverly Hallberg.
A synopsis:
Gabriella Hoffman joins the podcast to discuss this month’s policy focus: The Future Of Environmentalism: True Conservation. We talk about how the U.S. is a global leader in environmental stewardship and why conservation-driven solutions and not preservation environmentalism is the way forward.
Gabriella Hoffman is a visiting fellow at Independent Women’s Forum. She is a freelance media consultant, columnist, podcaster, and award-winning outdoor writer. Her columns and commentary have been featured in dozens of national publications including Washington Post, Forbes, Marie Claire, and Time Magazine. ‘Disinformation Governance Board’ is Very Orwellian
After Elon Musk’s Twitter purchase became official, DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas announced the creation of a new outfit to “combat disinformation” called the “Disinformation Governance Board.”
It sounds straight out of George Orwell’s 1984.
And the individual tapped as its Executive Director, Nina Jankowicz, naturally has a history of spreading disinformation herself. Yikes.
Take her rendition of “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious” to the tune of fighting misinformation. She dubbed herself the “Mary Poppins of disinformation.” Not a parody.
The New York Post highlighted her past tweets questioning the validity of the Hunter Biden laptop story:
"Jankowicz had also tweeted a link to a news article in October 2020 that she said cast 'yet more doubt on the provenance of the NY Post’s Hunter Biden story.'
“'Not to mention that the emails don’t need to be altered to be part of an influence campaign. Voters deserve that context, not a [fairy] tale about a laptop repair shop,' she added in another tweet."
In her announcement, the self-described Russia expert tweeted, “Now that I've got it: a HUGE focus of our work, and indeed, one of the key reasons the Board was established, is to maintain the Dept's commitment to protecting free speech, privacy, civil rights, & civil liberties.
