Good evening,
For you newbies out there, welcome to Outsider on the Inside. I hope this dispatch from in and around the nation’s capital on underreported topics finds you well.
If you’re just discovering my musings, here’s a backgrounder and make sure we’re connected on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and YouTube.
Auburn University Talk
On Tuesday I traveled down to Auburn, Alabama, to deliver a “Conservation is Conservative” talk at Auburn University. The speech marked my first time setting foot in Sweet Home Alabama and 43 U.S. states visited.
Here are some photos from the event:
The hospitality was great, the people nice, and the BBQ - especially at Moe’s Original BBQ in Bent Creek - was divine. You can’t go wrong with the white sauce.
And I was able to grab breakfast and some jerky from the nearby Buc-ee’s that opened back in April.
National Energy Appreciation Day Launch
After returning from Alabama on Wednesday morning, I headed over to Heritage Foundation in Washington, D.C. for the National Energy Appreciation Day launch event they co-hosted with us at Independent Women’s Forum. Here’s a synopsis from our press release:
Independent Women’s Forum (IWF), in an effort to recognize the importance of America’s domestic energy industry and celebrate the men and women who make it work, spearheaded the formal establishment of National Energy Appreciation Day (NEAD) by working with members of Congress, industry leaders, and coalition partners. NEAD will be observed annually on October 4. IWF’s Center for Energy and Conservation (CEC), upon leading the charge in celebrating energy’s vital role, will be announcing additional initiatives to honor the men and women who power America’s innovative energy sector.
Inspired by how America’s modern energy system has made American lives and economic opportunity so much better, and concerned that the U.S. oil and gas industry has been needlessly attacked, jeopardizing our energy security and economic growth, Senator Cynthia Lummis (R-WY) and Congressman Jeff Duncan (R-SC) have introduced a bicameral resolution to designate National Energy Appreciation Day.
The launch event featured Heritage’s Diana Furchtgott-Roth, Senator Cynthia Lummis (R-WY), and IWF Center for Energy and Conservation Director Mandy Gunasekara.
Our event comprised a panel event and lite refreshments post-panel on the seventh floor of Heritage Foundation that overlooks downtown Washington, D.C.

ICYMI: Conservation Nation EP15 is Out
This week, I released Episode 15 of my CFACT original video series called “Conservation Nation.”
Videographer Madison Hughes and I explore the question: does President Biden’s net-zero push, including the scaling up of offshore wind exploration, contribution to whale deaths alongside the East Coast? More evidence points to this, even as the Biden administration denies it.
We spoke to the following stakeholders in our new video report:
Meghan Lapp of Seafreeze Ltd.
John Toth of New Jersey Outdoor Alliance
Keith & Suzanne Moore from Defend Brigantine Beach
