Good morning,
For you newbies out there, welcome to Outsider on the Inside. I hope this dispatch from in and around the nation’s capital on underreported topics finds you well.
If you’re just discovering my musings, here’s a backgrounder and make sure we’re connected on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and YouTube.
Quick Thoughts of the Week
Tell the grinches at Dept of Energy: hands off our appliances! Take action HERE. And I was profiled in the latest Champion Women profile. Learn more at IWF Center for Energy and Conservation.
My friend and singer-songwriter Madison Hughes performed at Dierks Bentley’s Whiskey Row in Nashville this week. So cool!
The Washington Capitals and Wizards could be relocating to Alexandria, Virginia, from D.C., if our General Assembly signs off on the deal during the 2024 legislative session. That surging crime in D.C.’s Chinatown must have been the tipping point.
COP 28 adopted formal language to urge “transition” (not phasing out) of fossil fuels by 2050. Thankfully, this agreement is non-binding and will never come to fruition. But it’s still very concerning this was agreed to in Dubai.
My friend and IWF colleague, Carrie Sheffield, unveiled her forthcoming memoir MOTORHOME PROPHECIES, now available for order ahead of its March 12th, 2024 publish date (a few days before my birthday).
Environmentalists are suing Elon Musk/SpaceX for allegedly having rocket launches near sensitive wildlife areas.
That’s a wrap for this past week. Stay tuned for the next update!
An Enchanting Stage of Life
This week, I traveled to Albuquerque, New Mexico, to address a prominent policy think tank’s quarterly luncheon. I previewed my speech on this podcast.
The title of my lecture was “Is New Mexico’s Land Up for Grabs?” honing in on the Biden administration’s Day One climate executive order that includes aligning the U.S. with the U.N.’s Agenda 2030. Specifically, promoting and implementing an American “30-by-30” plan to “conserve” 30% of lands and waters by 2030. I’ve analyzed this at length, and its rebrand “America the Beautiful” plan, and am not a fan at all. I also discuss how this initiative will exploit the Antiquities Act of 1906 and exceeding of presidential authority to achieve their means. And I also focused on the BLM Conservation Landscape and Health rule and proposed SEC Natural Asset Companies listing rule and how those pose threats to property rights and public lands access.
Here are some pictures from the event, which took place at the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center:
I also got to do a little sight seeing too. I visited Old Town Albuquerque, picked up some hatch green chile and spices galore at The Fruit Basket, and got a glimpse of the renowned Sandia Mountains.
After nearly getting stuck in Dallas, I came back to the D.C. area just in the nick of time to make it to Young Voices’ Christmas party. I’ve been a part of this organization for 2.5 years, first as a contributor and now as a Regional Leader, and am so glad I got to see many colleagues and friends for a few hours.
