Good afternoon,
For you newbies out there, welcome to Outsider on the Inside. I hope this dispatch from in and around the nation’s capital on underreported topics finds you well.
If you’re just discovering my musings, here’s a backgrounder and make sure we’re connected on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and YouTube.
Quick Thoughts
Support and follow the work of IWF’s Center for Energy and Conservation today if you haven’t already.
The USB-C charger will be “common standard for charging electronic devices” in the European Union (EU). Woof.
Unsurprisingly, utility-scale wind projects encroach on America’s national monuments.
Go see the Bob Dylan biopic, A Complete Unknown, if you haven’t already.
That’s all for now. Stay tuned for the first 2025 dispatch on Friday!
A Whirlwind & Wonderful 2024
Many of you have tagged along my whirlwind and wonderful 2024 travels through this Substack newsletter.
From testifying before Congress for the first time to traversing Mount Rainier, to having a Lithuanian homecoming and reporting from Auschwitz Memorial and Museum in Poland, I’ve traveled far and wide. My Flighty app (shown above) is tangible proof. I’ve now visited 47 of 50 U.S. States, and have three new countries - Denmark, Poland, and the Netherlands - checked off.
Although I enjoyed my travels, I equally valued time at home. I became a three-time aunt. I returned to both a concert hall and a movie theater after five-year dry-spells. I prioritized my health and fitness, losing some 10 to 15 pounds kickstarted by my European walking adventures. I went above and beyond to be a good friend and supportive colleague. As a pretty guarded individual, I’m also proud I opened myself more to wonderful people and experiences beyond work.
As you prepare your 2025 New Year’s Resolutions, my recommendation for you is this: set goals that are achievable and practical. But don’t neglect your emotional and social needs either.
Hold onto and cherish your loved ones. Seek out more in-person time with those you care about. Plan a trip that could be life-changing or bring great people into your orbit. Don’t habitually live on social media and make politics 100% of your personality. Find ways to bring joy to those around you. And don’t be afraid celebrate the little successes and big milestones that come your way.
Happy New Year! I’ll catch you in 2025.
